Cashmere for Men

Cashmere is the right choice when you want knitwear to feel pleasantly supple directly on the skin while sitting cleanly under a jacket or coat. Our cashmere knitwear is made in Scotland by the same producer as our other knitwear qualities. All the jumpers are knitted "in one piece" and come in a broad colour palette – so you can either build a calm base or set deliberate accents.

In our collection you will find crew neck and V-neck jumpers in 2-ply and 3-ply versions, plus roll necks, jumpers with a polo collar, knitted waistcoats and cardigans. Our 3-ply quality features a saddle shoulder, creating a little "more room" in the jumper. The 2-ply quality is made with a set-in shoulder and therefore looks slightly calmer and more formal. If you are after more substance for winter, the 6-ply cable knit is the right choice: noticeably thicker to the touch and especially cosy.

Styling is straightforward: a 2-ply crew neck over an Oxford shirt looks assured in the office and fits under a tweed jacket without adding bulk. For leisure and travel, a roll neck with corduroy trousers and boots is a reliable choice. And the cable knit works superbly with flannel or denim when the look is allowed to turn more rustic. FAQ

What do 2-ply, 3-ply and 6-ply mean for cashmere?

The ply count describes the substance of the knit. 2-ply is lighter, 3-ply feels noticeably more substantial, and 6-ply (e.g. cable knit) is the most substantial of all and therefore especially warm.

Does the ply count also have something to do with durability?

On the whole, yes: more substance can better withstand everyday friction. At the same time, even a 2-ply cashmere lasts a very long time if the yarn quality, workmanship and care are right. What matters most is rotation (not wearing the same piece every day), less friction from straps/jackets, and gentle care.

Pilling on cashmere: normal or a problem?

Light pilling can arise through friction (e.g. the inside of a coat or a bag strap). With natural fibres this is not automatically a quality defect. With gentle use and the right care the surface stays fine over the long term; small pills can be removed carefully.

How do I care for cashmere properly?

Airing rather than frequent washing is the best routine. When washing is necessary: according to the label (hand wash/wool cycle), a little wool detergent, little friction, dry flat. For the off-season: store it clean, dry and folded.

Which style is suited to what?

A V-neck works best over a shirt (including with a tie); the crew neck is the all-rounder. A roll neck replaces shirt and scarf in winter and looks very buttoned-up. A polo collar is ideal when you want a clear line at the neck without a tie. A waistcoat and cardigan are the quickest layering tools for changes in temperature.

What is availability like?

If the item is in stock in Cologne, it is dispatched straight away. If a size or colour has to be reordered, the goods come from Scotland – delivery time is then approximately 10–14 days from the order. You can see the status transparently from the stock level in the shop.

What does 'saddle shoulder' mean as opposed to a 'classic set-in' shoulder?

With the saddle shoulder, the seam runs diagonally from the neck across the shoulder and is therefore visible from the front. It allows more room and so appears somewhat more relaxed. With the set-in shoulder, the seam runs classically along the top of the shoulder. This makes the front appear somewhat calmer and, thanks to the narrower shoulder, somewhat more formal.
