Tweed jackets and tweed coats for men in pure new wool, woven by Moon in Leeds and John Hanly in Ireland. The jackets are modelled on the outdoor jacket and the shooting jacket: raglan sleeves that leave room for a tailored jacket underneath, bellows pockets, a corduroy collar with a throat tab, a two-way zip and a quilted lining. The coats cover the knee, with raglan sleeves and a stand collar.

Tweed outdoor jacket or tailored tweed jacket?

A tailored jacket has lapels, a button front and interlining, and it is worn with trousers. A tweed jacket fastens with a zip and press studs, is lined and goes over a shirt, knitwear or a tailored jacket, with corduroy trousers, jeans and boots. How long is a men's tweed coat?

The raglan coat is cut to cover the knee and has a centre vent at the back. It therefore reaches well below a tailored jacket. If you are looking for a shorter style, you will find it among the tweed jackets, which are worn over a shirt, knitwear or a tailored jacket.

Why does a raglan coat fit well over a jacket?

Because a raglan sleeve has no shoulder seam that has to sit exactly on the shoulder of the jacket. Its seam runs diagonally from the collar to under the arm. This gives a rounder shoulder line and leaves room for a tailored jacket or a thick jumper underneath. A coat with raglan sleeves looks a little more relaxed than one with set-in sleeves and a squarer shoulder.

How can you tell a good tweed coat?

By the cloth and the make. The tweed should be pure new wool from a named mill; a heavier cloth weight makes it firmer. Our raglan coat is made from tweed by John Hanly in Ireland, with real horn buttons behind a fly front and a quilted viscose lining.

How heavy is the cloth of a tweed jacket?

The Moon tweed of the Oxford jackets weighs 525 g per running metre, and the John Hanly tweed of the raglan coat 440 g. Both are therefore heavier than the tweed of our Moon suits, at 370 to 430 g.
