Lambswool stands for honest, hard-wearing knitwear, and that is exactly what this collection is made for. At John Crocket you will find classic crew neck and V-neck jumpers, slipovers, cricket and Fair Isle jumpers as well as cardigans (also with a shawl collar) in an exceptionally wide choice of colours.

All items are Made in Scotland and have a deliberately relaxed cut; our lambswool tends to come up on the generous side. The jumpers are knitted ‘in one piece’ and all have a saddle shoulder, which gives more room across the shoulders and a more relaxed look. This makes our lambswool work very well for layering: over a shirt, under a tweed jacket, or on its own, from casual wear to smart casual. Among our knitwear qualities, lambswool is the sturdiest option, yet still soft for lambswool and not scratchy.

How does lambswool fit at John Crocket?

Our lambswool styles have a relaxed cut and tend to come up large. If you are between two sizes or prefer a slimmer fit, the smaller size is often the better choice.

What does ‘saddle shoulder’ mean on a jumper?

With a saddle shoulder, the seam runs diagonally from the neck across the shoulder, so it is visible from the front. It allows more room and therefore looks a little more relaxed.

Is lambswool scratchy?

Lambswool is generally sturdier than Geelong and considerably more rustic than cashmere. For lambswool, however, ours is comparatively fine, and many customers find it comfortable to wear, especially over a shirt or T-shirt. If your skin is very sensitive, Geelong or cashmere is the better choice.

What is lambswool best suited to?

Lambswool is a true all-round layering material, from leisure and travel to smart casual. It looks particularly right with a shirt, flannel trousers or corduroy, and of course alongside tweed.

How do I care for lambswool properly so that it keeps looking good for a long time?

Knitwear benefits from airing, and from a wash after several wears so that the fibres draw together again. Wash according to the care label (wool cycle/hand wash), use a little wool detergent and dry flat. This way the garment keeps its shape and will see you through many seasons.

What is the difference between lambswool, Geelong and cashmere?

In short: lambswool is the most robust and sturdiest quality, Geelong is finer and softer, and cashmere goes a step further in handle and warmth-to-weight ratio. Which quality suits you best depends on how sensitive your skin is, what you will wear it for and the look you want.

How quickly is delivery if an item is not in stock?
